Make the most of your time at Otago Museum with a free, bite-sized tour with one of our wonderful Museum Guides! Take a closer look at treasured and significant items in our collection and learn more about their fascinating history that makes our collection so unique!

Whether you’re learning about the trials and tribulations of the life of Central Otago miners or the myths and mysteries behind Rapa Nui and our own Moai, our wonderful Museum Guides will share the rich stories of our collection and will inspire you to learn the amazing stories behind some of Otago Museum's incredible collection.

Whether you are a first-time visitor or a museum-regular, there is something for everyone with different tour treats covering a variety of themes and topics! Tour Treats are 20 – 30 minutes and run each week from Friday to Sunday at 3.30pm.

Friday 3.30pm – Discover Ancient Egypt with Merryn
Have you always wondered what frankincense and myrrh smell like? Now is your chance!

Saturday 3.30pm – Myths and Mysteries of Rapa Nui with Ross
Ross has been researching this subject for years and is excited to share his knowledge on these incredible figures.

Sunday 3.30pm – The Weird but Compelling Octopus with Russell
Russell will share his favourite specimens in our collection including an octopus beak, a nautilus shell, and a cuttlefish bone and will be telling fascinating stories of these unusual creatures.
