Gallery B: Gerard Copas 'Subtraction to Abstraction' | Curated by Billy Apple.
Northart is excited to host a solo exhibition of prominent New Zealand artist Gerard Copas.
Copas is a word-based artist whose hand painted texts include words or phrases as their primary artistic component. His recent work explores negative shape and form using fragments from type. These fragments are often borrowed from words in existing text artworks, a new direction for Copas. This current work becomes more abstract and minimal in presentation, and utilises a formidably hard-edged technique.
Northart is pleased to announce that this exhibition will be curated by notable New Zealand artist Billy Apple. This will be the first artist’s show that Billy has curated.
Subtraction to Abstraction will open with an event on Sunday 11th of April from 4pm to 6 pm, and then run daily at Northart until 25th of April.
Public programming for this exhibition will include a ‘Conversation with the Artists’ on Sunday the 18th of April at 1pm and an artists workshop. More specific details will be announced on Northart’s website and social media.
