Featherston Booktown and the Chicken and Frog Bookstore are so excited to be bringing Vasanti Unka, the award-winning New Zealand children’s illustrator and author, to Featherston for a stargazing-inspired event for children and their whānau, called Glittering Galaxies.

In her book 'I Am the Universe', Vasanti writes about a “starlight journey through space that leads to a wonderful planet brimming with all kinds of life and communities,” and is written and designed for children aged three and up.

The event will be in Featherston's Anzac Hall complex and will be staged in a black gazebo, lit with fairy lights and hung with planet mobiles.

For almost an hour Vasanti will be reading her book and her glittering illustrations will be projected onto a big screen. Vasanti will answer your questions about our Universe. Then we will have a craft activity where you can create a postcard using scratchy design cards and write a message to a child somewhere in the Universe. Featherston Booktown will post these cards to our Booktown friends in Australia, Scotland, and Sweden, and with luck, children from these places will write back to us!
Vasanti will be in conversation with Joanna Ludbrook, owner and curator of the Chicken and Frog Bookstore in Featherston.

Thanks to our funding partner South Wairarapa Rotary - Youth, this is a free event, but we do ask you to register for contact tracing purposes.
