Haydn's Nelson Mass is a thrilling setting of the liturgy with incisive and unrelenting choral parts and soaring solo soprano lines for much of the work. An excellent line-up of soloists will make for a memorable performance of this masterpiece. Handel's Coronation Anthems have been performed at the coronation of every British monarch since their composition in 1727 and have been immensely popular for nigh on 300 years. They include the phenomenal Zadok the Priest which has one of the most incredible opening climaxes of all music. A gentle, understated rising motif of arpeggios builds in volume and stature until the choir, trumpets and timpani erupt in a tremendous blaze of sound. The other anthems are all utterly delightful in their own way, many of them are dance-like and joyous. We are so lucky to be able to enjoy live concerts in New Zealand during these crazy covid times so please do join us for an afternoon of sublime music, including afternoon tea and conversation. Don't forget to bring some cash for the raffle!
