Discover a StoryWalk® at your favourite local park or walkway!
Go with the flow on an interactive nature and early literacy outing. Combine the physical benefits of walking outdoors with the educational benefits of reading, in a fun and engaging way. Explore the StoryWalk® on your own, or walk along together with whānau.
Three different StoryWalks® will be in Cornwall Park, Flaxmere Park and Karituwhenua Stream Walkway through the Autumn school holidays, for all park and story lovers to discover.
What is a StoryWalk®?
A StoryWalk® is a creative way for children and their whānau to enjoy the park on a family-friendly, accessible path while reading an adventure at the same time. Pages of a children's book are displayed along the path for people to follow along and read. The initiative aims to get people out and about enjoying the benefits of both physical exercise and reading at the same time.
The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library. StoryWalk® is a registered service mark owned by Ms. Ferguson.
We may take photographs or video recordings during events and programmes which may be used in Council promotional material.
