The Studio Italia Cinema Italiano Festival warmly invite you 'Bad Tales'.

Bad Tales is the multi-award-winning, style soaked drama set in the languid suburbia of a Roman neighbourhood. The stifling heat seems to pervade every frame of this colourful, meticulously crafted world. The set up suggests that the narrator has discovered the diary of a child and continued to write in it, taking the characters to their own conclusions, this film is the hypothetical result. It reminded me of antipodean Cinema in its coming of age themes set in a perfect world on the surface but hides complex layers beneath.

This is the story of a long summer, a world where children seem to be more enlightened than adults, where parents' inexplicable angst appears like a magical curse. One could even say it is a modern fairytale where the stakes are equally as dramatic. The behaviour of adults and especially men, are surgically disassembled, revealing the surprising perspectives that children witness.

The world is so vibrantly depicted and well-drawn that it is unlikely anyone could predict the plot's unfolding. The beautiful cinematography and stylish design only seem to add a disquieting contrast to an atmosphere so meticulously constructed. The twin D'Innocenzo brothers co-direct and have been much lauded for their original new voice in Italian Cinema. Lovers of David Lynch, Todd Solondz or Ben Wheatley will appreciate this dark, artful film.
