The Kaituna Ridges Ramble is a walk/mountain bike event organised as a fundraiser for Pelorus Community Preschool on Kaituna Ridges, a “stand out” property at the base of the Pelorus Sound within the Kaituna Valley. A spectacular 12km Walk, Run or Mountain Bike Ride

Kaituna Ridges Farm is an outstanding property just out of Havelock, reaching up from the edges of the Pelorus Sound estuary to the rock outcrops of the steep hillsides above Kaituna Valley.

This is no ordinary farm, having featured on Country Calendar in 2016, and is a past winner of the Marlborough Environmental Awards. The 800 hectares of rolling green pasture is set amongst large areas of native bush. Wetlands are being restored and the bush is protected.

Looking down from the ridges you can see the peaceful Kaituna River winding its way towards the Pelorus Sound, the Richmond Ranges to the south, and the stunning Queen Charlotte Sound to the north - every turn on the track will give you a different view.

This is your only chance each year to experience this wonderful Kaituna jewel. Whether you fancy a challenging run, walk or mountain bike grab this opportunity and participate in this fundraising event.

What?
This is not a race but a personal challenge. Register then set off at your own pace. The Ramble is a challenging 12km loop course. The event will begin in the paddock past the woolshed on Kaituna Ridges Farm.

The route is a steady uphill climb, mainly on a 4WD track, to the first saddle, with a decent drop before returning to the ridgeline and winding through beautiful beech forest. Another saddle is mastered before heading into thicker native bush, following an old gold miners trail to come out onto a ridge to begin the final descent.

For Who?
Kaituna Ridges Ramble is a testing but rewarding trek which requires medium level of fitness for walkers and runners. The mountain bike is in areas technically challenging and requires a fairly high level of fitness to ride the uphill sections. Depending on your ability, walkers are expected to take between 3 to 4 hours, runners 2 to 3 hours, and for MTB approximately 2 to 3 hours.

Please Note - Children 13yr and under must be accompanied by an adult around the course, and be signed in/out by them too.

What to Bring:
- Good Footwear
- Water Bottle and Snacks

The track will be clearly signposted with markers. Course Marshalls will be positioned with water and have contact directly to St John Volunteers for your safety. Please keep to the track as marked with pink fluro tags, and close all gates behind you.
