We are a presently a four-piece band comprising lead, bass, rhythm guitar/vocals and keys/drums. Our project has been going for around 6 months and we are ready to get out there and perform for you fine folk! Come at check us out at The Hub Milford!

Nau mai haere mai! We wanna make you move, groove and feel our goodness. Come stand in our sunshine! We wanna be your Kapa T!

Our story:
We got together in 2020 with the intent to find a click with like-minded peeps and create something decent - in terms of a musical product that was an honest representation of ourselves, our strengths, and a good representation of a song we play whether it's ours or not. The overall intent was to share it out there in the wild in whatever capacity is available to us for people who want to feel and groove to our music. We’re all in the middle stages of life and still pretty green in terms of playing together but are all loving it until further notice so we’ll see what happens.

How was the band formed:
In 2019 Taurua came to audition for T at his whare in Torbay. Almost a year past and through a reconnect, they decided to have a go at something together. From there, Tau introduced a bass player and drummer, that exited shortly after, but gave us enough impetus to keep trying. Then there was two... until Tau added Gareth as our Bass player late in 2020. He brought some direction and leadership to the group. We needed more and added Jose in January 2021 to take care of the drums and our keys…Jose holds our suspicion on who has the most candles on our last birthday cake lol. So until further notice, we’re trying to get our stage performance down so we can get out there and bring our goodness.

Band name
Kapa T comes from the Maori word for Group - Kapa...and my name T aka Terence...I got out voted and the guys decided that as i’m the front man, I can carry the name to. That's the problem with democracy as I wanted to call us something else.

The play on words didn’t hurt either... “Tonight we’re gonna be your cup of tea” cheesy much lol

What do we play?
We are playing a lot of reggae/funk/soul type music respectfully. We cover a lot of LAB, NZ music and global reggae, soul, RnB funk type artists to fill out our song sheet repertoire. We like people moving so we’re upbeat. We have a few originals ready for the wild however, our focus has been about putting together a solid show. We believe you need to really get as close as you can to cover anyone's songs and to honor the original artists - that is important to us. So building our “own thang” is happening and it’ll become more of a focus as we go this year with the intention of releasing something of our own by year end... even if it's a single!
