Kintsugi (or Kintsukuroi) is the Japanese art of repairing broken objects. Loosely translating to ‘golden joinery’, it uses lacquer and powdered metal to make visible repairs. It values breakage and repair as part of the history of objects.

Learn how to piece your broken ceramics back together with beauty in this workshop led by Tokyo-born Yuka O’Shannessy. O’Shannessy is dedicated to connecting people and craft. As the founder of Public Record (@public_record_), she shares work by local and international artisans and teaches traditional techniques that help preserve goods for life.

Japanese tea and a snack will be provided.

Three Sessions: bookings essential
Saturday 21 August, 10.30am
Saturday 21 August, 2pm
Sunday 22 August, 10.30am

Need to know.

Bring your own broken object. It could be a plate, cup, or vase that holds meaning for you. Or head to an op shop and break one yourself. Don’t pick something too complicated.

Bring a craft knife, if you have a spare one.
