Always wanted to learn how to knit but never been sure where to begin? Join craft tutor Stella Carruthers as she teaches the basic principles of knitting in this fun, informative and supportive class. In this workshop, you will gain the essential building blocks of knitting using only knitting needles, your hands and an open mind.
By the end of the course, you will have created two squares of knitting. One in basic garter stitch and the other utilising both knit and purl stitches to create the knitted fabric called stocking stitch.
Come and reap the benefits of a mindful and meditative craft-form. Meet other people interested in making things with their hands. Chat over crafting and find out what the craft craze is all about.
Crafter Stella Carruthers shares her ten years plus knitting experience in this beginner’s knitting class that supports each student as an individual learner.
To support a nice friendly environment, Stella will provide home baking and tea and coffee will be available during the class. You can come along, stitch and sip, and enjoy a fun and supportive learning space.
Knitting needles and yarn are included in the course fee.
By the end of the course, you’ll be able to:
Identify the necessary equipment needed to knit successfully.
Practice casting on using the long tail cast on method.
Learn how to hold needles and yarn according to the English method.
Practice the knit stitch.
Practice the purl stitch.
Practice casting off your knitting.
Create knitted fabric in garter stitch.
Create knitted fabric in stocking stitch.
Note: Courses need a minimum number to go ahead so if we don't have enough enrolments a few days before the start date, we have to cancel. We'll let you know by email so please check yours regularly.
