Graham Surrey will give a presentation on the recent discovery of a significant population of giant kōkopu, a threatened endemic freshwater fish species, on Waiheke Island. He will outline the threats facing this fish, which is particularly rare within the Auckland Region, and ways in which the public can help to restore urban streams and learn more about the species within them."
Graham is a Senior Freshwater Ecologist at Wildland Consultants, a nationwide consultancy specialising in providing high-quality ecological information, advice and technical services to a wide range of clients. He has a particular interest in the conservation and promotion of our native freshwater fish species.
Phil Simpson will give a 15-minute presentation outlining an inspiring vision for the Maungawhau Ecological Halo, a buffer zone to protect and enhance the diversity of native wildlife around Mt Eden. He will outline what has been achieved so far and how locals can get involved in the project
Phil is the facilitator for Urban Ark - Manawa Taiao, a support organisation for community conservation groups across the inner west of Auckland. Urban Ark envisions a thriving network of biodiverse parks, reserves and backyards connecting our maunga and awa.
