Join us at the gallery on Thursday 21 October at 6pm for Live Feedback, a conversation with Megan Dunn and Pip Adam. Both Dunn and Adam are award-winning writers whose practices are intertwined with the visual arts. Or as Dunn wryly puts it, "I live my life persecuted by the arts". Dunn has recently published 'Things I Learned at Art School', while Adam is the current International Institute of Modern Letters Writer in Residence at Te Herenga Waka–Victoria University of Wellington. Adam’s second novel 'The New Animals' won the Acorn Foundation Fiction Prize at the 2018 Ockham New Zealand Book Awards. Dunn’s video work, 'Obsession' (1998), features in our current exhibition 'Image Processors: Artists in the Medium – A Short History 1968–2020'. This was one of several video works Dunn made during her short career as a video artist in the 1990s, a time when, as Dunn has remarked, "the mainstream was the problem and the edit suite was where it could be corrected." Come along to hear Dunn and Adam reminisce about the 1990s in Auckland, a time when they were both starting out on their respective creative careers.
We're grateful to be able to host this event in person and we look forward to offering a safe, physically-distanced arrangement for the occasion. For the safety of all during Alert Level 2, visitors to the Gallery will be required to wear face coverings, contact trace, practise physical distancing, and sanitise as instructed by the Ministry of Health.
This live talk will be recorded and later released as an episode of Feedback, a series of podcasts accompanying the exhibition 'Image Processors, Artists in the Medium – A Short History 1968 – 2020'. You can listen to previous episodes of Feedback on our podcast channel 'Courtesy Of' rss.com/podcasts/adamartgallerytepatakatoi/ or find on your favourite podcast app.
