We’ll be planting natives out in Owhanake on Sunday 11 July, so come join us and help restore the mauri of our wonderfuls Waiheke wetlands. Turn up with your friends, whānau, and a spade if you have it — we will be meeting at the Owhanake car park off Korora Rd, so we recommend carpooling if you can.
Around 10,000 eco-sourced trees are going into Waiheke wetlands this year as part of WRT’s Love our Wetlands project. These plants have an important job; their roots will harness soil to the hillside, preventing erosion. The soil can then trap sediment and filter nutrients, which prevents contamination downstream to rivers and oceans.
