Celebrate Matariki with a lantern-lit family night walk beside the Pūharakekenui / Styx River, in partnership with Kahukura Rongoa Māori Healing, Styx Living Laboratory Trust and Christchurch City Council.
Explore this riverside park by night at this whanau event. Darkness transforms the natural world into a different place and walking in the engages your other senses to hear, feel and smell the forest. Local park rangers will keep you safe as we wander and then gather around the fire to sup hot chocolate and listen to stories.
The walk will take about 45 minutes and is suitable for pushchairs. Dress warmly with sturdy footwear. We encourage you to wear dark, non-rustling clothes – the magic comes alive if we are quiet! Don't forget your torch (covered with red cellophane) or bring a home-made lantern.
A gold coin donation would be appreciated towards volunteer restoration efforts in this park.
All attendees, regardless of age, must register. Limit 70 people.
