Written and Directed by Scotty Cotter.
A Matariki World Premiere. A new commission by Silo Theatre.

Put your headphones on and greet the new day by walking your maunga, streets, coastlines and parks participating in this original sound-play.

MAURI TAU is a unique storytelling experience that weaves together the magic of theatre, mythology and nature and immerses you - the listener, in a playful and reflective hikoi guided by Te Iwa O Matariki, the nine stars of Matariki.

Writer, director Scotty Cotter collaborates with sound designer Fran Kora to celebrate Te Kāhui O Matariki, inviting you to reconnect to your own mauri and usher in the Māori new year.

Interact with your environment, your imagination and the stories written in the sky as you journey to a rich inner world that turns your attention towards the year to come.

How will it work?

MAURI TAU is an audio experience created and designed to be streamed online via a smartphone device. All you will need to participate is a smartphone with wifi capabilities and a set of earphones. Once this project goes on public sale, book your session!

On the date of your selected session time, you’ll just need to grab your phone, put your headphones on and press play.

Daily sessions at 6 AM, 7 AM, 8 AM, 5 PM, 6 PM, 7 PM & 8 PM.
Additional weekend sessions at 11 AM & 3 PM.

Silo Theatre is one of Aotearoa's leading producers of contemporary theatre. Silo curates an annual season of local and international work that champions new forms of storytelling in order to speak directly to the world around us. Silo provides exceptional experiences for a variety of audiences, with the hope that they walk away from a Silo show a little bit transformed, a little bit uplifted, and with a greater sense of connection to themselves and our collective cultural identity.
