Learn to create simple and soft objects out of pure New Zealand wool in this beginners needle felting workshop.
Needle felting is also known as soft sculpture. It's a process of sculpting using wool as the medium and special needles with barbs on the end as a tool. Felt is created as the barbs of the needle tangle and compact the scales of fibre with repeated jabs and pokes.
As a new felter, you will learn everything you need to know to begin needle felting. You will create some simple objects out of pure New Zealand wool, based on the very basic shape - a ball. Bring your creative ideas, and you will leave with your very own creations and skills of felting. All materials and tools will be provided. This workshop is not suitable for children as very sharp tools will be used.
This event is part of The Arts Centre Sculpture Festival, see the full programme on The Arts Centre website.
