Ol’ King Cole brings you the hits of the great Nat ‘King’ Cole, as well as performing the sounds of many other great tunes and artists of his era, and more along the way. Originally starting as a drumless trio, the group was inspired specifically with a focus on Nat’s early trio which ran from 1943 – 1950, where a great and lively performance is always a guarantee. With the spirit of the old house band alive, before TVs in bars and when people would dance the night away!
The trio's first incarnation had Louis joined by Robert ‘Bert Hendo’ Henderson on double bass (Wellington City Shake-em-on-Downers), and Callum Allardice on guitar (NZ Jazz Composition Award winner/The Jac).
2018 then saw Ol’ King Cole record and release a debut album The Best Man. Following the release of the album, Louis and Callum were joined by Thomas Botting (AUS/NZ) on double bass for a month-long New Zealand tour in conjunction with Chamber Music New Zealand. The tour consisted of workshops along with performances in many small centres as well as main cities and had a wonderful reception.
2021 now brings a new angle to Ol’ King Cole, with Alexander ‘Honey’ Boulton (guitar) & Phoebe Johnson (double bass) into the mix along with the occasional appearance of a drummer!
