After the 2010/2011 Christchurch earthquakes, the University of Canterbury campus went through a design transformation. Next to the historical Central Library and the Jack Erskine buildings, new buildings have been recently completed such as the Rutherford, the Beatrice Tinsley, and the Rehua buildings and the Engineering Core. The architecture of these buildings fully expresses the innovation in the field of earthquake engineering developed in recent years.

This tour will take you around the UC campus where you will learn how architecture, engineering and innovation are amazingly integrated.
Meet in front of Puaka-James Hight Library.

Dr Giuseppe Loporcaro is a Lecturer in Architectural and Structural Engineering at the University of Canterbury. He has got a background in both architecture and structural engineering. He loves when materials, structures, history and innovation are the protagonist of architectural design.

Open Christchurch wishes to thank the University of Canterbury and Dr Guiseppe Loporcaro for participating in our 2021 programme.

Publicly accessible restrooms, Wheelchair/Walking Aid/Pram accessible, Service animals allowed, Assistive listening devices, Child friendly.
