PARK-UP is a series of documentary-style photographs by Catherine Russ, captured over twenty years on from Russ' original project in the same location.
On an elevated site above the Manawatū River is the look-out point known to many locals by its colloquial name, "Pork Chop Hill.” Otherwise known as Te Motu o Poutoa or Anzac Park, the well-known landmark, with its majestic views of the central plateau, is earmarked for development.
The carpark at Pork Chop Hill has always attracted a steady stream of visitors. “It is a place with many stories to tell”, says Russ. Photographed at various times of day and night over the summer of 2019 -2020, this new series of portraits captures a colourful and candid slice of life.
