Pitchblack Playback is a unique audio experience where you can hear upcoming and classic album releases loud, in full, in the dark, on a great sound system — with no distractions.
Born in London and now landing in Auckland following events in New York, Berlin, Paris and Tokyo, Pitchblack Playback will harness the power of The Capitol's cinema sound system to give you an immersive listening experience.
After their first event for Tame Impala's 'The Slow Rush' almost sold out, they return to The Capitol with Lana Del Rey's most acclaimed album, 'Norman F**king Rockwell'. Landing in almost every noteworthy best albums of 2019 lists, it's a masterpiece. Her cinematic style works beautifully for what Pitchblack Playback do.
"Norman Fucking Rockwell! achieves levity, tension, and a disarming self-awareness. The languor of Mazzy Star and downbeat skitter of Portishead meet the easy pop-rock breeze of Carole King on 1971’s Tapestry, or the searching resilience of Joni Mitchell on 1972’s For the Roses." - Pitchfork
Please note that this is an album listening session, not a live performance of any sort. It's just like watching a film, only you'll be listening to an album with the lights out.
Latecomers will not be admitted and refunds will not be offered!
Your ticket will include a free Pitchblack Playback blindfold (yours to keep!) for extra darkness as we have to keep the fire exit lights on...
