Kindness Isn’t Enough
What does the Politics of Love mean for Aotearoa?

Free Public Talk by Philip McKibbin.
Followed by a group discussion.

All welcome (no registration required).

About the talk: Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern’s government is not doing enough to address urgent issues like child poverty, homelessness, and the climate crisis. Some people have picked up on her 'be kind' mantra, suggesting that the government should extend its kindness further. But what if we embraced love? Kindness focuses on individual actions, whereas love reaches deeper. As theorists like bell hooks have argued, love can radically transform political systems.

About the speaker Philip McKibbin is a writer from Aotearoa New Zealand, of Pākehā and Māori (Ngāi Tahu) descent. His book Love Notes: for a Politics of Love is published by Lantern. He co-organised ‘The Politics of Love: A Conference’ at All Souls College, Oxford.
