This public lecture and tour for New Zealand Archaeology Week by Dr Peter Petchey and Professor Hallie Buckley will be about archaeological investigations that they have undertaken at historical cemeteries to locate unrecorded burials and learn more about the first generations of immigrant settlers.
There will be a break for lunch (finger-food provided) at 12.00 then there will be a visit to the Switzers Cemetery where Peter and Hallie will describe how they decide where to excavate, the process of excavation and exhumation of burials, and the challenges they can encounter.
