COVID-19 UPDATE: 6th October 2021.
It is with great sadness that we announce the postponement of the 2021 Pūkaha Community Open Day that was scheduled for 17th October 2021. An event this size could only proceed at Covid-19 Alert Level 1. As the Wairarapa and Tararua regions remain at Alert Level 2, the Open Day has now been postponed to mid-February 2022
We are incredibly sorry that we are not able run this year’s event. Pūkaha National Wildlife Centre remains open daily, 9am – 6pm, at Covid-19 Alert Level 2 and we encourage everyone to come and have their own ‘Open Day’ experience with us.

Please come and enjoy a fun family day out amongst nature as Pūkaha National Wildlife Centre opens its doors to the community.

Everyone is welcome. Koha entry.

Please note this event has historically been run on the Sunday of Labour Weekend but this year we have decided to run it on the last Sunday of the October school holidays.

Discover wildlife, native forest walks, ranger talks, fun kids activities, arts and crafts, market stalls & food, face painting, and much more.
BYO food & drinks (if you would like to) and picnic at the tables inside the reserve or get a range of food to suit all dietary requirements from the Kākā café.
Please bring cash for food and market stalls.
Please no pets or alcohol.
Limited carparking available. Please carpool where possible.

Monies raised will be used to support native forest restoration and the captive breeding-and-release of endangered native species into the wild

This is a fun day outing for families and tamariki. More details will be added to this listing closer to the event. Ngā mihi nui
