Realistic Oil Portrait Painting

Paint realistic portraits in the style of the old masters using photo reference. Students will be introduced to oil painting techniques, and methods for correct lighting, shading and colour choices. This is a 9 week class. Alvin Xiong is an Auckland-based multi-disciplinary artist and independent curator. His practice looks at integrating painting techniques into different mediums to achieve new expressions. Examples include Life Likes Summer Flowers, LED installation, 2015, commissioned for the Auckland Art Festival, as well as LALALA, commissioned by the University of Auckland, for the Lantern Festival.
