For the final weekend of Kate Newby’s solo exhibition YES TOMORROW at Adam Art Gallery, join us for a performance of a new work from composer Samuel Holloway.

Samuel Holloway has a longstanding friendship with Kate Newby, and a similarly enduring relationship with her work. 'May' is an expansive new work written in response to Newby’s practice, reflecting on attention and care, openness and possibility, gentleness and congeniality, and blurring the space between work and context.

Samuel Holloway is an artist and composer based in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland. His work is variously concerned with notions of musical complexity, perception, and time; ambiguous affective states such as boredom; and musical notation and its continuing potential as a site for exploration. Samuel was the 2013 Mozart Fellow at the University of Otago, and a 2016 Civitella Ranieri Fellow in Umbria, Italy. He studied music and philosophy at the University of Auckland, and currently manages the contemporary art and design programmes at Unitec Institute of Technology. Samuel produces music-related publications under his imprint Score; a new edition of Things, arranged by Marcus Jackson and with text by Celeste Oram, is forthcoming.
