Do you have an eye for strategy and impact? Want to upskill and add a board membership to your resume? Unsure how to go about it, what the criteria is, or if you have valuable skills?

The average age of directors in New Zealand is 60, and it is trending up. However, we know that it is important to have young voices in our local governance roles. Millennials make up the majority of the job market, yet don’t always have much input in top-level decision-making.

That’s why the Social Change Collective is hosting a Governance Workshop for young people (20 - 35) with support from the Wellington City Council. This half-day workshop will help you understand how boards work, what you need to do to become a board member, and where you can best upskill to become an effective board member. As part of this workshop we are bringing together a panel of speakers (including Justin Lester and Aaron Hape and Carla Rey Vasquez) to answer all your questions.

Programme outline

11:30am - 12:00pm : Morning tea - chance to mingle with panelists
12:00pm - 12:30pm : Self-reflection: What skills do you have to offer? What do you bring to a board?
