Waitakere Arts Studio, Corban Estate Art Centre
Cost $90 for 3 days; materials included.

Workshop tutored by Alexander Efimov, professional sculptor, and assisted by Tatiana Zimina.

Limited to 5 spaces, to allow for plenty of one-on-one interaction and explanation and demonstration of material.

Held at Waitakere arts studio, there will be 3 morning sessions - 6, 7 and 8 January, 10am - 1pm.

In this workshop we will sculpt a 2/3 size portrait in clay, using one of few example sculptural portraits made by Alexander.

This workshop is suitable for beginners.

The workshop goal is to learn the important structural elements needed to achieve likeness, the proportions of the face and head, and specific forms of the facial features and expressions.

This is a hands-on workshop, each student will be working on their own piece, from an example sculpture provided by Alexander – there will be a few to choose. Alternatively you can bring your own reference material, please discuss with tutors beforehand.
Teaching methods will include life demonstration and explanation, and individual feedback. In this workshop we will learn how to make a plaster mold and cast from the clay portrait.

Materials provided : water-based clay, base with armature.
Students will need to bring: paper and pencil, plastic bags, cotton rags to wrap the clay, hand towel, latex gloves – if wanted to use while sculpting, blunt table knife.
