Drawing from fairy tales both well-known and unfamiliar, Ravel's Mother Goose Suite, originally written as a piano duet and later orchestrated, illustrates moments like Sleeping Beauty being awoken by the Prince, a conversation between Beauty and the Beast, and Hop o' My Thumb and his brothers' adventures in the woods.

Opening with some of the most well-known notes in the history of music, Beethoven's Symphony No. 5 belongs to his 'heroic period'. A testament to triumph over tragedy, the opening four-note theme was described by the composer as 'fate knocking at the door'.
