Are you looking for something different to do in the evening? ZEALANDIA is staying open until 7pm from 28 - 31 January. Walk amongst hundreds of rare birds, listen to their calls and try to follow the sounds to experience the sights of rare species like tīeke, kākāriki, and the tiny hihi/stitchbird with its flash of yellow feathers. Experience this special piece of Wellington between 8am - 7pm.

Enjoy a summers evening picnic on the lawn by the lake, take in the view of the birds with a drink on the café balcony or trek further into the sanctuary where you will be surrounded by native bush and can hear the squawks of the kākā as they feed nearby. The evening is a special time to be immersed in nature and this special late night is the ideal opportunity to experience it.

You may like to come earlier and spend the whole day, challenging yourself to reach the upper forest tracks. There are 32 km of tracks and trails so there is plenty to explore. Summer is a great time to see the tuatara bathing and takahē feeding in the wetlands, so take this opportunity to explore one of New Zealand's most accessible wildlife sanctuaries where researchers create an environment to help native species flourish.

There is parking on site or you can catch the free shuttle to the sanctuary from the city or top of Wellington Cable Car. Make the most of 2021. Grab some friends and family and do something different!

*Normal entry charges apply.
