Rescheduled from Friday 20 August, this concert will now take place on Tuesday 23 November.

On 18 August 2000, a new music ensemble formed in Wellington gave their first performance in the Wellington Town Hall. Called 'Stroma', the ensemble demonstrated their high level of skill and stamina through an ambitious, virtuosic concert of recent works from New Zealand and abroad.

Stroma was officially launched.

Since that time, Stroma has been at the forefront of bringing bold, fresh musical experiences to New Zealand audiences. And we had planned to celebrate our 20th birthday in August 2020. But those plans were scuppered by COVID-19, postponing our whole year's concerts.

In 2021 we will finally get to celebrate our 20th anniversary with a concert featuring some of our favourite music and composers. This will include a rare performance of Jenny McLeod's Cat Dreams in honour of her 80th birthday.

You’ll also get to hear New Zealand premieres of works by Salina Fisher and Michael Norris, a guest appearance by Wellington taonga puoro legend Al Fraser, and some crowd favourites by Kaija Saariaho and Luciano Berio.

And you can experience this in the Public Trust Hall, a beautiful new venue in a historic old building on Lambton Quay.

Featuring:
Alistair Fraser (taonga puoro)
Bridget Douglas (flute)
Mark Carter (conductor)

Programme:
Jenny McLeod - Cat Dreams (for mixed ensemble)
Salina Fisher - Lumina (for mixed ensemble)
Kaija Saariaho - Terreste (for flute and ensemble_
Simon Eastwood & Alistair Fraser - Te Aitanga Pepeke (for taonga puoro and ensemble)
Luciano Berio - Ricorrenze (for wind quintet)
Michael Norris - Gyri (for mixed ensemble)
