On 8th January 2021, Ngāti Manu, Te Kapotai, Ngāti Hau and Ngāti Hine will welcome whānau, hapū and iwi from across the nation to commemorate the end of the Battle of Te Ruapekapeka (10 January 1846).
The theme for the commemorations is Kawea a puriri mai – in reverence, remembrance and respect.
Over three days, wananga will be held with visits to other battle sites in and around Te Peowhairangi, including Ngawha Marae, Ohaewai, Te Ahuahu, Mawhe Kairangi and Te Ruapekapeka Pa.
On Sunday 10th January, a commemoration ceremony will be held at Te Ruapekapeka Pa from 7am with the raising of the flags.
Whānau and hapū are invited to bring whakaahua or taonga to acknowledge the presence of those at the conflict.
