Gather your chums and join us for Tea Time Talkies at The Roxy - a relaxed, indulgent Sunday afternoon with a classic movie and delicious Devonshire Tea!
On Sunday 11th April we’ll be screening the religious epic ‘Ben-Hur’ (1959), directed by William Wyler, and starring Charlton Heston.
Heston plays a Palestinian Jew who is battling the Roman empire at the time of Christ. His actions send him and his family into slavery, but an inspirational encounter with Jesus changes everything. Heston finally meets his rival in a justly famous chariot race and rescues his suffering family.
Wyler’s 1959 film was the latest dramatic adaptation of the mega-bestselling novel Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ, published in 1880 by Lew Wallace. Filmed on location in Italy, on a budget of some $15 million, Ben-Hur was the most expensive movie ever made up to that point. Setting an Oscar record, the film won 11 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor. In terms of epic scope and grand spectacle, Ben-Hur still ranks among Hollywood's finest examples of pure entertainment.
The film screening will consist of a 30-minute intermission where a delicious Devonshire Tea* awaits (a cup of tea and a traditional homemade scone with cream and jam).
Strictly no dietaries catered for.
