The Capital Band’s third concert for 2021 takes place on the 22nd October. This adventurous programme of exploration features a string quartet by American minimalist composer Philip Glass and the timeless American quartet by Dvorak.
The Capital Band is an innovative and exciting group of younger semi-professional, amateur, and non-fulltime musicians and comprises current and former members of Orchestra Wellington, the Dunedin Symphony Orchestra, the National Youth Orchestra, the New Zealand School of Music, and various other ensembles in the greater Wellington region.
You can bring your own blankets, cushions, drinks, and friends and there will be free admittance, with koha entry for those of you who would like to support the Band financially. You are also able to help The Capital Band to become 'carbon neutral' in 2021 by gifting a native tree to the Band's registry at Trees that Count.
The programme will be as follows:
6.45pm Doors
7.30pm Reich Music for Pieces of Wood
7:40pm Glass String Quartet No.5
8.05pm Interval
8.25pm Dvorak String Quartet No.12, Op.96
8.50pm Glass Islands
Registration is required for this event due to the current restrictions on gatherings, and we will be keeping our numbers to 100. Seating will all be allocated and appropriately distanced, and at this stage there will be no door sales.
There is limited parking at St Andrew's on The Terrace, so please park on the street or at one of the local carparks. The railway station is approximately 5 minutes walk from the hall and there are plenty of buses that stop on Lambton Quay, around the corner from the hall.
