Auckland's regular Rockabilly and Psychobilly night the Hellbilly Hop brings you another Smokin' hot lineup. Deadly Sam and the Summertime bandit, Tony Daunt and the Dauntless, and Durty Murdur plus Guest DJ Slim Pickings.
Frontman Deadly Sam originally found fame with his first band Dick Dynamite and the Doppelgangers NZ's Cult Psychobilly band. Having supported the likes of Slim Jim Phatom (Stray Cats) the lads moved to the UK and found success touring Europe. On returning to NZ Deadly Sam play with The Southern Diplomats before forming his current band Deadly Sam and the Summertime Bandit. The Band regularly plays events like The Rebel RoundUp so we look forward to a more intimate show and the promise of some new tracks just for us.
Tony Daunt and the Dauntless are a band of seasoned musicians young and old and it shows in their polished performance. Lead singer Tony carries himself onstage every bit as Rockabilly cool as Johnny Cash and brings a unique dark folk/country storytelling quality to their original Rockin tracks. With a good peppering well-chosen covers thrown in I know you will love this set.
Durty Murdur touch deep into the early beginnings of Rockabilly/skiffle with custom-built instruments and blues harp. Playing upbeat numbers on cigar box guitars these lads will have you up dancing. Their always entertaining performance and the witty chemistry on stage between this duo they are an act not to be missed.
Our guest DJ Slim Pickings is coming all the way from Wellington for your listening pleasure. Expect to be up and bopping to Neo-Rockabilly, raw vintage rock'n'roll and psychobilly stompers.
Don't worry our trusty house DJ Terriblenong will still be there to keep the tunes coming into the small hours.
