Discover the joy of creating quilts while contributing to work referencing gender equality and a fairer society in this hands-on workshop lead by textile artist Arati Kushwaha.
In developing The Quilt Project, Arati references gender equality and the feminist movement as a form of resistance against gender discrimination in the society, an issue particularly evident in the textile/fashion industry.
The Quilt Project aims to create and collect panels representing the many different perspectives on equality, before bringing them all together to create one large-scale quilt.
Participants are invited to create a quilt panel with an appliqué of a math-based symbol in reference to the inequitable status of women in society.
Stitching not only brings joy, but has long term physical and mental health benefits, as well as being a traditional way for people to meet and connect with others: hand and mind working in harmony to convey what lies in our hearts.
Join your community and be a part of the creative process - all ages, genders, and levels of sewing experience welcome.
