Anchor your calendar now to take part in the 2021 Web Genius Kapiti Run for Youth to raise funds and fitness for Kapiti youth while having fun strolling or running the beautiful Kapiti coastline.

KR4Y has raised more than $140,000 for youth of Kapiti since inception in 2011. In 2020 the event raised $20,583 and this remarkable outcome was achieved before and during the global pandemic COVID-19 when NZ went into Alert Level 4 lockdown. We made a decision to reposition the event to take place virtually so we could encourage participation in a fun and healthy community event during a challenging and unprecedented time for all New Zealanders, and continue to raise funds for Kapiti youth-based causes.

Everyone participating was asked to do it alone or within their bubble and to walk or run in their own neighbourhood and following the 2m social distancing rule. We persevered with the event in this format to provide an alternative way for people to come together as a community at a time when coming together in the traditional way was not an option. Before lockdown we raised nearly $15,000 through a business sponsorship campaign and during lockdown, we raised more than $5,000.

In the beginning KR4Y was created by Web Genius as their way as a local business to ‘give back’ to the community so, more than a decade on we can proudly say the event is sustainable and is popular with all sorts, young and old, the fit and not so fit, and its ability to pivot and run virtually in 2020. In 2021 we hope to be back walking or running along on the beach in the usual way as a massive group.

KR4Y will open for registration closer to the event and at that time we will be seeking individuals and groups to get together to walk or run from Paraparaumu Beach (Maclean Park) to Raumati Beach and back. For those choosing the 12km walk or run, they will do two circuits of the course.

There are four options to choose from: 12 or 6km walk and 12 or 6km run. Registration takes place from 8.45am to 10am with all walkers and runners starting together at 10.15am. Once your profile is set-up online, let your family, friends and work mates know so they can sponsor your efforts. There is a $20 qualifying fee that can be raised through sponsorship and all entrants will receive regular campaigns to motivate their sponsorship efforts along the way.

We are a family friendly event – baby buggies and crowd friendly dogs on leads are welcome. Bring your sunhat, sunscreen and water on the day. There are sponsored prizes, treats for the kids and certificates for everyone participating. There are even best dressed prizes for individuals and groups. Closer to the time, go to the website to register or sponsor someone all registrations and sponsorship are handled securely and confidentially on the website.

Business sponsorship (Gold $500, Silver $250, Bronze $125) is available for businesses who want to support the underlying work of this event and the youth of Kapiti. In 2020 we are grateful to 58 local business sponsors that can be viewed on the KR4Y website. Sponsorship for the 2021 campaign will open late in January 2021.

Our fundraising model focuses on returning as much money as we can back to the Kapiti community to those working with youth. All funds raised are split 70% to the official Fundraising Partner chosen by the participant at the time of registration and 30% is retained towards running and promotion of the event. 2020 Fundraising Partners: Challenge for Change, Kapiti Basketball Association, Kapiti College, Kapiti Youth Support, No 49 Squadron Air Cadets, Otaki College, Paraparaumu College, The Shed Project Kapiti, ZEAL Kapiti.

Sponsored by: Beach FM, City Fitness, Kapiti Business Projects, Kapiti Candy Co, Kapiti Hire, Kapiti Law, Kapiti Pure Water, Kapiti News, Peter Jackson Plumbing, R-Line, Shoe Clinic, SignCraft, 16Nine Photography, Web Genius.
