Three key places in Palmerston North military history

The military history of Palmerston North cannot be separated from three key places: Awapuni Racecourse, the Palmerston North Showgrounds (now CET Arena) and the Māori Battalion Hall. These talks will focus on the military events that impacted those places and the wider Palmerston North community. They will include: the Military Tournaments of the early 1900s and the military activities of the Second World War based at the Showgrounds; the New Zealand Medical Corps Camp of the First World War based at Awapuni Racecourse; and the history of the Māori Battalion Hall.
