On May 8th and 9th this year, Bryan Aitken (formerly of The Court Theatre Christchurch) will be in Nelson to hold a weekend workshop: "Understanding Stanislavski"

Konstantin Stanislavski – Father of the modern school of acting!

This seminal Russian Theatre practitioner (1863-1938) was widely recognised as an outstanding character actor, and one of the leading Theatre Directors of his generation. He created the ‘system’
of actor training, preparation and, rehearsal technique, still taught throughout the world today. His teachings work to stimulate natural creativity, and revolutionised theatre at the turn of the century in Russia and Europe. They were then adopted by American practitioners to revolutionise film in the 1950’s through the work of directors such as Elia Kazan and actors like James Dean, Marlon Brando and Montgomery Clift, purveyors of the “Method”.

He co-founded the famous Moscow Art Theatre and worked with – amongst a host of leading playwrights of the time – Anton Chekhov and Maxim Gorky.

Stanislavski recognised the development of more modern (naturalistic) styles of writing,
but not the ‘Naturalistic’ style of acting required, to elucidate and illuminate the text.
Acting at that time was plagued by a ‘demonstrative’ and one-dimensional approach.

This workshop is about the journey he took, the system he created, and the lasting impact on Film and Stage acting, that we implement and celebrate today.
Discover the secret that makes some people so watchable, natural and truthfully emotional – The Stanislavski System.

It will be two days of script analysis, character study and exercises - learning about the Stanislavski system.

This workshop will be a great way to deepen your craft as an actor or director and to gain tools that you can use in a practical way straight away. It'll also be lots of fun.

Young people who are passionate about acting are welcome.
Places are limited so book early.

To book, please contact Nathan or Nathalie at Frostbridgeproductions@gmail.com

In this seminar, we will deepen our understanding of the Stanislavski System, through script analysis and exercises. 6 hours per day of study, with a light lunch provided. $150.00
