Friends of Vogelmorn are excited to announce the long-awaited and much-anticipated return of our splendorous Vogelmorn Sessions events at the wonderful Vogelmorn Hall!
With our brand new in-house sound system made by local audio-engineering artisan Toby Shaughnessy of Tubs Audio (thanks to some generous funding from the NZ Music Commission) and a superb lineup of local talent to put it through it’s paces, this first foray back into fray promises to be a funky one!
Double Trouble
First up we have Wellington’s own superstar actress/singer/comedian/all-round-good-sort Vanessa Stacey, fresh from receiving rave reviews as co-lead in the hit musical theatre show ‘Sweeney Todd’. This powerhouse vocalist will knock your socks off with her soulful delivery of an assortment of original tunes and old and new school R&B, soul and jazz, backed by one of Welly’s most accomplished bassists, Johnny Lawrence on the upright. Watch out because together they are Double Trouble!
Tawhiri Funk
Drawing influence equally from the jazz, funk and soul music of the late 60s and early 70s (James Brown, Kool and the Gang, The Average White Band and a host of lesser-known players) and the Hip Hop of the late 80s and early 90s that was made by sampling that music (A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, The Beatnuts etc); Tāwhiri Funk have been bringing heat to dancefloors in their home town of Wellington and across New Zealand for a number of years.
DJ Uncle Silverback will also be spinning some pre/post/in-between wax to keep the vibe alive.
There will be food available for purchase on the night as well as a licensed bar (this means no BYO, but don’t worry, prices will be very reasonable).
