Fensham reserve is located 5 minutes outside of Carterton, in the Wairarapa.

The 48-hectar reserve contains a remnant kahikatea swamp forest, regenerating bush, wetlands and some magnificent podocarps believed to be between 400 and 700 years old.

Fensham reserve offers a wonderful location for forest bathing, sometimes referred to as mindfulness in nature. This walk will assist you with slowing down a little, with taking some time to nurture yourself and to connect with nature in a way that inspires calm and joy.

At Wairarapa Nature Immersion we know how busy life can get and we believe the science which tells us that a guided walk in the bush is the perfect antidote for stress and a wonderful way to boost wellbeing, creativity, purpose and focus.

Away from the 'shoulds' and 'musts', your trained guide will take you on a 2-hour long sensory journey where we will explore our sense of smell, touch, sight, hearing and taste. The slow walk includes breathing exercises and stops at various locations to allow us to soak in the natural world around us.

Numerous studies into the benefits of forest bathing - or mindfulness in nature - show that spending time in nature, away from the demands of daily life, helps reduce stress, anxiety and depression while also improving physiological challenges brought on by prolonged stress such as high blood pressure.

Each walk includes a warm drink of locally made herbal tea and a nurturing bite to eat at the end.

This particular walk is not suitable for our youngest people, but please keep an eye out for upcoming walks focusing on children and families.

Note that pre-booking is essential for this walk and that numbers are limited to eight. The walk is suitable for all fitness levels, however contact us if you think you will require extra support or have questions about the terrain.

This walk can be done in most weathers, but in case of an extreme weather event, we may need to postpone or you can opt for a full refund.

Please visit our website or Facebook Page for more information about forest bathing.

We look forward to hearing from you and sharing this remarkable experience with you.
