Special thanks go to Wastech for making Waitangi Day (Sat, Feb 6) all the more special, and exciting, by sponsoring the 2021 NZ Saloon GP at Heavy Trax Hire Central Motor Speedway.
The news gets even better with most of the saloon drivers from all over the country who competed in last weekend's SW Finance NZ Saloon Championship at X-Factor Cars Riverside Speedway coming to Cromwell for Saturday's racing.

Where the sparks will really fly is between the new 1NZ Chris Cowling (the third time he has won the 1NZ title), 2NZ and 't' contract diver George Phillips and 3NZ Willie Woodhouse.
In just his third season of saloons, 21-year-old George Phillips has a point to prove after Chris Cowling beat him to first place and 1NZ on his car by just 0.016 of a second.

"That 0.016 of a second is all the motivation I need coming into the Wastech 2021 NZ Saloon GP to drive hard, fast and tactically," says George who belonging to a family with speedway in their DNA started in youth saloons at 12 before moving to productions followed by three seasons in modified sprints and then stepping up to the V8 saloon class in the Hypermac his dad Lloyd successfully competed in for several seasons

Waitangi Day racing at Heavy Trax Hire Central Motor Speedway also features 19 streetstocks competing in 20/21 Central Otago Streetstocks Champs. There will also be a 20 plus contingent of visiting youth saloons and 25 youth ministocks kicking up the Cromwell clay.

Gates open at 2pm for early-birds to park up in their favourite spots on the natural amphitheatre surrounding the 500 metre 'avocado-shape' track. Racing starts at 4pm for a family and neighbour-friendly finish time of around 9.30pm. Food and coffee stalls along with Mr Whippy will be in full swing.

Introducing sponsor, Wastech Services Central Otago. The Phillips family are not just close-knit in the pits and on the track, brothers Lloyd, Craig and Wayne have built the successful and multi-faceted Phillips Group. One of the group’s companies, Wastech is naming rights sponsor of this Saturday’s 2021 NZ Saloon GP at Heavy Trax Hire Central Motor Speedway.

“Having raced at Heavy Trax Hire Central Motor Speedway for so many years and with George a contract ‘t’ driver I was keen to give something back to the club by sponsoring the 2021 NZ Saloon GP,” explains Lloyd. “Of course, at that time I had no idea George would be competing as 2NZ."

The Phillips Group established Wastech Services Central Otago in 2013 as a specialist in bulk water delivery, liquid and solid waste removal, oil removal, dust suppression and rear-gantry style skip bins.
