ĀKAU is a design studio and foundation in Kaikohe, dedicated to empowering taitamariki (young people) by engaging them in the design of real projects. Together they have designed a basketball court, a petrol station, typographic murals encouraging the use of te reo Māori, and many other community projects in Te Tai Tokerau (Northland).
This papamahi (activity) is part of the public programme for Modern Living: Design in 1950s New Zealand.
