On Saturday 24th April at 10am Go Wild on a fascinating 12km hike through the beautiful Orokonui Ecosanctuary cloud forest and around Orokonui estuary to raise funds towards food for takahē and kākā.

This event is a great leg-stretcher in a beautiful environment - and will raise funds for the supplementary food for kākā and takahē that live within the ecosanctuary, a cost of around $9,000 a year!

You may well think - all that land, surely there would be enough food - but the cloud forest ecology of the Ecosanctuary is still regenerating. It can provide some, but not all, of the food that these special birds need. To keep them in top condition, specially formulated pellets are needed as a supplement until the forest matures and can provide the diversity and variety of food required.

Children attending this event can redeem a Kiwi Guardian Wild Dunedin Medal. Orokonui will give you the information on how to claim your medal on

To allow time for registrations, the Visitor Centre will be open from 9am Saturday Morning. Please visit the front desk to check in and pay for entry. The walk will commence at 10am from the grassland area inside the Ecosanctuary.
