YAMI stands for Youth & Adults in the Music Industry and is a weekend of workshops, panels and performances featuring astounding tutors who know their way around the music industry!!
Past YAMI tutors include Jon Toogood (Shihad), Anika Moa, Tiki Taane, P Digsss (Shapeshifter), Anna Coddington, Kings, Julia Deans, Dave Dobbyn, Warren Maxwell (TrinityRoots), Ladi6, Sam Flynn Scott (The Phoenix Foundation), Mu (Fat Freddy’s Drop), Tali, Bella Kalolo, Barnaby Weir (The Black Seeds), Anthony Healey (APRA), David Ridler (NZ on Air), Cath Andersen (NZ Music Commission), and Kristin Bowman (Recorded Music NZ).
2021 tutors are announced this summer.
Covering topics as diverse as mixing & mastering, crowd-funding, audio production, songwriting, DJing, Beats Production licensing and publishing, there is definitely something for everybody who loves music and wants to know more.
Running in Wanaka during NZ Music Month since 2015 and operating on a bi-ennial basis (odd years only), tutors and speakers from NZ on Air, APRA, Recorded Music NZ, NZ Music Commission, Massey School of Music, MMF and IMNZ offer not only guidance for musicians, but also insights into other careers within the hugely productive (and growing) NZ music scene.
Setting up strong, effective networks to assist participants in forging a financially viable career, the summit caters for 150 participants and culminates in public evening performances where tutors and participants showcase new material.
The main aim is to show the ‘real’ side of the music industry, with students eventually becoming productive and independent members enjoying a fulfilling musical career.
