Ben Fernandez

Music workshop conducted by jazz pianist and composer Ben Fernandez with special guest Warren Mendonsa (guitarist/producer/educator). Venue - St Mary's Church Hall, 117 Onewa Road, Northcote, Auckland.

Ben has now decided to conduct a second workshop based on feedback, comments and questions received at the first workshop on improvisation held earlier this month.

This workshop will focus on the techniques and elements of improvisation and creativity in music.

Topics that will be covered will include:

Use of blues scales and pentatonics in improvisation
Chord, scale relationships
Compositional techniques
Accompaniment
Constructing solos over different types of tunes and musical styles
Practice techniques

The workshop will end with a short concert by Ben and Warren to highlight topics covered at the workshop.

This workshop is open to all ages and players of all instruments. The only requirement is the willingness to learn, explore and share this lifelong journey of discovery with the world.

Ben has conducted many workshops in the past in New Zealand and overseas. He now intends having these for the local community. Everyone is capable of improvisation – if they want to. This workshop will give them an insight into the tools needed to get started on their journey of discovery.

Thank you to Auckland Council Creative Communities Scheme for their support of this workshop
