Spend a weekend exploring beautiful gardens in South Wairarapa. This two-day self-drive garden tour is a rare chance to visit private gardens opening to support Pūkaha's annual fundraiser - the Pūkaha Wairarapa Garden Tour. This year celebrates 12 years of this much-loved event.

Sure to delight gardeners of all ages, we’re excited to bring you some firm favourites alongside plenty of newcomers opening to the tour for the first time.

The 2022 tour showcases gardens in and around South Wairarapa - Featherson, Martinborough, Greytown and Carterton. The lineup includes contemporary designs and organic sustainability, an expansive formal rural garden, whimsical perennials, flowers galore in town and country and a 90-year-old garden from farm paddocks to formal hedging and walkways to native bushwalks - this tour has it all.

Choose from a diverse selection and take inspiration from ordinary people who have overcome common gardening challenges to create beautiful outdoor spaces.

With loads of variety, there's something to suit gardeners of all ages. A ticket gets you entry into 15 private gardens - including a special treat this year - a mini fair to support Pūkaha.

- Locally sourced and home-made refreshments are available in selected gardens or BYO picnic
- Cash sales of plants, gardening treats and crafts to stock up for Christmas
- Children under the age of 14yrs have free entry with a ticketed adult
- Please leave pets at home
- The event goes ahead rain or shine.

As a fundraiser, proceeds from the garden tour allow Pūkaha National Wildlife Centre to continue its vital work of conserving and restoring native flora and fauna.

Showstopper!! Richmond Garden is on tour - its prominent reflection pool, stunning feature gardens, and impressive hedging is not to be missed! This Italianate-style garden is one that will take time to appreciate and savour. The tranquillity and peace achieved through the repetitive themes and symmetry used for centuries will leave you feeling relaxed and motivated to create in your own garden.

Sustainability, organic gardening and food sovereignty are key themes emerging after Covid-19. Experience a guided tour through the Wairarapa Eco Gardens. This working farm built from barren bare paddocks will leave you inspired and informed for your own food empire.

Enjoy a 'baguette and bubbles' (pre-ordered only) at the Prodigal Daughter's Chef's Garden courtesy of Rachel Priestly an international chef shares her garden showing that flowers and food can be grown in harmony.
