A community gathering to commemorate the events of 5 November 1881 when the New Zealand Crown invaded the peaceful Taranaki settlement of Parihaka and arrested its leaders Te Whiti O Rongomai and Tohu Kākahi . This event is now part of our newly-minted New Zealand History curriculum taught to Year 1-13 school students (https://nzhistory.govt.nz/occupation-pacifist-settlement-at-parihaka).
Music, food and good korero are on offer. All free/koha and open to the public. Whānau friendly.
