Women who LEAD

They are extraordinary leaders, each making a profound and positive difference to the world in which they live and work.

Trailblazers in their fields, champions of diversity, warriors for a sustainable future, and savvy operators; these women are forging their own impactful path and paving the way for others.
Professionelle and ASB Bank are delighted to bring you the first panel in our 2022 series, where you will hear from Former Governor General and businesswoman - Dame Patsy Reddy, Chair of Global Woman and businesswoman – Theresa Gattung, and the Chief Executive of Forest & Bird – Nicola Toki.

This is an event that promises to be lively and inspirational; a rare and privileged insight into the professional lives and the personalities of three successful leaders.

Together with panel interviewer, Hannah Ockelford, they will share what it means to them to be a leader, how they got there, what drives them and how they use their influence to effect positive change.

- Dame Patsy Reddy
Dame Patsy is known for her relatable style, her intellect and her professional success. Having stepped down following her five-year term as governor-general, she has recently been appointed to the Rugby Board, and as a trustee of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra Foundation. A lawyer, director and crown negotiator, Dame Patsy had an extensive career in numerous high-profile governance and consulting roles, including contributing to not-for-profit bodies, before serving as The Queen’s Representative from 2016. In 2014, Dame Patsy became a Dame Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to the arts and business and, in 2016, was made a Dame Grand Companion for services to the Nation.

- Theresa Gattung
Theresa is the impactful, high-profile and recognisable chair of Global Women. In 1999 she became the first female CEO of an NZX listed company, and the youngest leader Telecom had ever had – just 37 years old. These days she divides her time between professional governance, entrepreneurial and investment interests, and philanthropic work. She is the chair of multiple boards, most recently Chair of Tend, and she is a co-founder of My Food Bag, New Zealand Lead of SheEO and the author of a best-selling autobiography. In 2021 she funded the Theresa Gattung Chair of Women in Entrepreneurship and launched the Gattung Foundation.Theresa was honoured for her services to business and philanthropy in 2015 with a CNZM.

- Nicola Toki
Nicola is a passionate and accomplished leader in environmental protection and conservation, recently taking the reigns as Chief Executive at Forest & Bird. Her appointment follows a stellar career to date in the field of conservation where she has held high-profile senior leadership and governance positions with the Department of Conservation and with Forest & Bird. She has been a tireless advocate for the country’s threatened species for several decades, considered the ‘go-to’ media commentator in the industry for all things conservation. Nicola’s powerful communication skills can be seen, heard or read in several regular slots across Afternoons on RNZ, Breakfast on TVNZ and The Spinoff. The self-confessed ‘nature-nerd’ is focused on ensuring the conservation of nature is a top priority.

- Hannah Ockelford – Panel interviewer
Hannah is the driving force behind the Professionelle and ASB Bank Female leader panel series. She curates and hosts these popular and entertaining events with some of the country’s most senior professional women. She also facilitates events on behalf of other corporates and organisations. Hannah trained as a journalist, spending 12 years in broadcasting mainly at TVNZ. Following that she worked for a global professional services company for 5 years before making the move to contract work.
