Come and celebrate the 49th Auckland Folk Festival, Aotearoa's largest folk music and dance festival. The colourful festival is held over Auckland Anniversary Weekend at the Kumeu Showgrounds, a 20 minutes drive from central Auckland.

Although it is one of the oldest folk festivals in the Southern Hemisphere, every year it seems to be renewed with six stages in covered venues, showcasing exceptional Kiwi and overseas artists spanning the wide genres of acoustic and folk music.

First Lineup Announcement:
French for Rabbits * We Mavericks * Wheel of Experience * Luke Thompson * Kerryn Fields * Criu * Te Wehi Haka * Alpaca Social Club * The Swan Sisters * Across the Great Divide * Michael Parmenter (Balkfolk Auckland) * Tui Mamaki & Basant Madhur * Turkey The Bird * O & The Mo * Ida Lune * Monty Bevins * Shimna's List * Sam Loveridge * Butter Wouldn't Melt * Simon Stanley * Rhubarb * Gavin & Cara * Ministry of Folk * Ethno New Zealand * Songs from the Old Country

Whatever your taste in folk music there will be something for you to savour. The Recorded Music Tui for Best Folk Artist is presented on Sunday, alongside performances from the finalists. If you want to participate in one of the black board concerts or workshops, there are lots of opportunities. If you’d rather dance the night away, then there are venues for you. And in the wee small hours don’t forget to wander round and catch some of the magic jam sessions and sing-alongs.

Food trucks will be cooking up a storm all weekend, offering up a wide range of options, along with something to quench your thirst. Our Kids Stage and Zone is growing year by year.

To absorb the friendly family vibe, try camping for the weekend an remember it is a BYO venue. Immerse yourself in the centre of things, or choose a quiet camping area. And if you are not a natural camper, Kumeu is close enough to Auckland to come out each day. Children under 10 are free.

The Festival will kick off on the Friday evening at 7pm, and music will run till late on Sunday night. Keep up to date with announcements and information by following on Facebook, Instagram or joining our mailing list.

In light of the Government’s announcement, the Auckland Folk Festival will be looking to implement a vaccine certificate requirement for all attendees, volunteers and contractors eligible for vaccination. This is in line with the NZ Government’s requirements for all large-scale events throughout the country.

As the exact details of these guidelines have not yet been released, we will continue to keep you updated with any changes to requirements. However, with Earlybird tickets about to be released, it is important that you understand all tickets are purchased in the knowledge that a vaccine certificate will be required in order to participate in our festival.

We understand and respect that everyone has the right to make their own choices and are aware members of our community will not align with our position. This is not a decision we have made lightly. At the end of the day we are required to ensure the safety and well-being of all attendees. This is our highest priority.

We will keep a close eye on Government guidance as it evolves over the coming months and let you know as soon as we can what the exact requirements will be. And if we have to cancel AFF 2022, then full refunds will be issued.
