Kiwi and Whio aversion training is a tool which helps reduce the threat that dogs can pose to our native birds.

It is used mostly for “dogs with jobs,” such as farm or hunting dogs, where it is necessary for them to be in areas with Kiwi or Whio. However, some owners who enjoy recreating in the outdoors with their dog may also be interested in this training. If this is something you may be interested in for your dog and would like to know more about it, please see the Kiwi’s for Kiwi website.

Bring your dog along to train at any of our Kiwi & Whio Aversion events, and receive a free Family Pass to the Ōtorohanga Kiwi House (valued at $65.00), where you and the whole family will be able to see the precious birds that you and your dog will be working towards protecting!

Trip Length: 10 mins per dog. When you book you will be prompted to book within a 1-hour time slot and then you will be allocated a 10 min slot per dog.
Maximum Participants: 30 per day. Online registrations close 48 hours before the event, however, walk-ins are welcome on the day.
Meeting Place: Tokaanu Road, SH 41 (just after the bridge on the left-hand side, heading towards Tokaanu)
Transport: Own

Event may be cancelled due to weather or covid alert levels. Participants will be contacted 24 hours in advance if event is to be postponed.

Participants are asked to bring the following:
- Cash payment on the day
- Any previous Avian Aversion certificates
- Dog chip or registration number

Please note: the trip leader reserves the right to refuse anyone who is insufficiently equipped.
